Are you worried or excited about the coming changes in 2012? Do you think you’ll survive? Wondering what to expect? How to know if the end is really near?
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the ebook 2012 Official Countdown and boy am I excited about it. I know that sounds totally cheesy, but I really am. I’ve been interested in the 12/21/12 phenomena ever since my friend told me that the Mayan prophecies and Terrance and Dennis McKenna’s Time Wave Zero project both ended on the same date — December 21, 2012. I thought that it couldn’t be simply a coincidence that an ancient culture and a group of scientists came up with the EXACT SAME DATE.
Except apparently they didn’t.
I learned in the 2012 Official Countdown book that the McKenna brothers fudged the data a bit to reach that date. That was a bit of a letdown.
The rest of the book isn’t.
You see, all cultures have their own ideas about what will happen in the end times. In 2012 Official Countdown, James Sayer details how many of these predictions point to the same ending and how that ending all comes down to December 21, 2012.
First off, let me mention that Mr. Sayer says that people fall into three main categories when it comes to the 2012 “end of the world”:
- Those that think it’s all a bunch of BS, similar to the Y2K scare.
- Those that think the world is going to end in a catastrophic disaster, possibly with a few survivors.
- Those that think there is going to be a “shift in consciousness”, “human evolution”, or an “end of the world as we know it” with the end result being a type of earthly paradise.
I propose that there is another group of people — those that either don’t know about the 2012 phenomena or who aren’t sure what to think about it.
If you belong to the first two groups of people — you think 2012 is hogwash or you think we’re all going to die — 2012 Official Countdown is not for you. It’s not a survival guide and I know that you just can’t convince someone who’s determined to think otherwise. If, however, you’re not sure what to think about 2012, if you think that there’s going to be a shift in conscious, or you wanted to know everything that you could possibly know about 2012, then grab your copy today.
Other 2012 resources are so hard to understand…
I don’t know about you, but even though I’m interested in 2012, I find a lot of the writing about it to be dry and boring. To be honest, even though the idea of Time Wave Zero is one of the reasons that I believe in the 2012 end of the world, I could never make it through the book The Invisible Landscape (the book that details their findings). I’ve often searched online for information about the Mayan prophecies, but I couldn’t stay on the pages for long because there was just too much and I couldn’t make sense out of it. I’ve spent all this time believing in it, but not really knowing how deep the theories go and how many other cultures are saying the same thing.
That is until I got my copy of 2012 Official Countdown. The whole ebook was easy to read and made sense. I found the chapter on prophecies (starting on page 23 — coincidence??) to be one of the most interesting parts of the book. Mr. Sayer covers the prophecies of the Sybils, the Hindu, Indigenous Americans, Mayas, Hopi people, Merlin, the Celts, and the Druids, Mother Shipton, Nostradamus, the Bible, and the Web Bot Project. That’s pretty extensive and interestingly, they all say much the same thing.
The book also details some changes in the natural world that are going on, including crop circles, the importance of sound waves, and the potential of polar shift changes.
Towards the end, Mr. Sayer branches into some of the “conspiracy theory” aspects of 2012, including the New World Order, alien cover ups, and the Illuminati. To some, this might be off-putting, but I figure, what’s a book about 2012 gonna be without a bit of conspiracy theory thrown in. After all, no one really knows what’s going to happen.
It’s not perfect…
Now, I know that this has been pretty much a glowing 2012 Official Countdown review, but there were a few things that I didn’t like:
- Mr. Sayer uses the word “God” throughout the book. I’m personally agnostic and, if pressed, would say that my beliefs lend more towards New Age beliefs. When someone uses “God”, they usually are referring to the Christian God. I don’t like this because I think that a lot of bad things go on in the name of this God. So when I saw him talk about “God”, I was a bit put off. It’s clear throughout the book, though, that he is talking about a more universal God, something that I would call more a “life force” than “God”, but to each their own.
- There are several digs towards science throughout the book, in particular a dig against evolution. I don’t know the exact statistics of how many people believe in evolution vs. creationism, but I do know that the people who believe in evolution usually see those that believe in creationism as “nutjobs”. I don’t think that this theme overpowers the book, but it is there.
- In the conspiracy section, Mr. Sayer talks about the government wanting to “kill off our elders”, a clear reference to the so-called “death panels” that some people believe are a part of the proposed health care changes to the American system. These rumors have been shown by many fact-checking organizations to be untrue. Mr. Sayer condemns The History Channel throughout his book for poor research. Perhaps in this respect, he should have done a bit more research himself.
Still, those things that were off-putting to me may not be an issue with others. And I didn’t think that they were so prominent that it took away from the true message of the book.
All in all, this book is an excellent guide to the 2012 phenomena. It’s a good resource for newbies, but there are also sure to be things that old timers didn’t know as well.
WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!!!
